Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the infectious diseases that can be fatal to Sufferers, which can cause death. Diseases caused by mycobacteria is a major cause of disability and death in most countries around the world, (Chin, 2002).It is estimated that about a third of world population has been infected by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In 1995, an estimated 9 million new TB patients and 3 million deaths from TB worldwide. An estimated 95% of TB cases and 98% of TB deaths worldwide occur in developing countries and 75% of people with TB are productive age group. Likewise, a woman's death from tuberculosis more than the deaths due to pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum, (MOH, 2004).In Southeast Asia, data World Health Organization (WHO) suggests that TB kills about 2,000 people every day. And about 40% of the world's TB cases are in Southeast Asia. In the world, Indonesia ranks third after India and China for the largest number of TB cases by the number of patients about 10% of the total number of TB patients in the world. It is estimated that in 2004, every year there are 539,000 new cases and 101,000 deaths of people. While the incidence of smear positive TB cases around 110 per 100,000 population (MOH, XXXX).The situation in the world is getting worse, the number of TB cases increased and many are not successfully treated, especially in countries that are grouped in 22 countries with the problem of TB (high-burden countries). In response, in 1993, WHO declared TB as an emergency world (global emergency). This is due to the many patients who are not successfully treated, especially people with infectious (smear positive). So finally in 1995 the program Directly Observed Treatment Shortcourse (DOTS) imposed by the government recommended by WHO, (MOH, XXXX).In 1998 a recovery in Indonesia reportedly has reached 87% but the scope of the invention the patient reaches approximately 10% (less than 70%). Based on WHO estimates, if coverage can reach at least 70% to 85% cure rate and was maintained until 2005 then it can reduce the incidence of TB by 50%, (MOH, 2000).
